KL Women Seminar: Achieving Financial Independence + How to Survive Breast Cancer?

Financial Independence – An Essential to have for Women
by Nomura Asset Management Malaysia Sdn Bhd

The participation of women in business and workforce has been on the rise. The phenomenon is global and the importance of financial independence in women should not be taken lightly.

Financially independence gives women a sense of empowerment and enables them to be in control of the decisions they make in life. More so, a dual income household would be ideal in providing families the safety net during financially trying times.

Families are put through financially difficult times when the primary and co-breadwinner of the household losses his/her source of income, unexpectedly. The situation could easily worsen if this involves requirement to undergo treatment or cure for critical illnesses; civil implications involving divorce cases between husbands and wives; etc.

Hence, prudent financial management is important and comes hand in hand with financial independence. It is always wise to save up for the rainy days and starting one’s retirement planning at the earliest. When women are educated in the investment decisions that they make, their families are expected to benefit the most. Why? Research has found that women reinvest back in their families at a much higher rate compared to their male peers, with the reinvestment rate being suggested as high as 90%.

The avenues for saving and investments are aplenty. In this session, Ms Nor Rejina Abdul Rahim, Managing Director and Country Head of Malaysia at Nomura Asset Management Malaysia Sdn Bhd, aims to cover the options one could consider as alternative to traditional bank deposits and how one could achieve optimal diversification from their retirement pension (i.e. EPF).
